Plan the Paw-fect Pet-friendly Trip

Bring your faithful companion with you to the Okanagan by staying at a pet-friendly hotel in Kelowna.

Your furry buddy has been your best friend since the day you brought him home. From waiting at the front door for you to get home from work to cuddling up next to you on the couch when the cold weather has gifted you with the flu or a cold, he’s been by your side through it all. Show him just how much you appreciate him. The next time you’re headed to Kelowna hotels, bring him with you!

To make sure you plan the perfect pup-friendly trip, follow these helpful tips:

1. Make the appropriate travel arrangements.

If you’re heading to a pet-friendly hotel in Kelowna via car, make sure your car is in tip-top shape and ready to hit the open road.

If your mode of transportation is by aircraft, make sure his travel arrangements have been properly taken care of with the airline. You may need special equipment or have special considerations to think about.

2. Visit the vet before you go.

Before you two head out on your trip, be sure to stop by the vet’s office first. You’ll want to ensure your pup’s vaccinations are up to date. It’s also a good idea to stock up on anything that can help your pet travel more comfortably if he’s not very good in the car or an airplane.

3. Pack your pup’s bag.

To make sure you and your dog have a fantastic trip together, be sure to pack a proper bag for your pet. Some of the items you should pack include:

  • Food and treats
  • Prescription medications
  • Drinking water
  • Food and water dishes
  • Dog bed, blankets, and toys
  • Up-to-date ID tag and collar
  • Leash with waste bags
  • Vaccinations and medical records

4. Make reservations at dog-friendly hotels in the Okanagan.

Before you even begin packing, do a little research into some of the pet-friendly hotels in the area. Once you’ve narrowed down your selection, make sure to call and set up a reservation so you and your pup have a place to stay when you arrive.

5. Consider pet-friendly activities.

Your pup may be perfectly content to stay in your hotel room with you, but you may want to plan out different activities for the two of you to take part in once you arrive at your destination. Look for destinations with plenty of pet-friendly parks, walking trails, and vet services. That way, you’ll be prepared for nearly any hairy situation should one arise.
