Every summer, tourists from all over the country head to Kelowna accommodations looking for a hot and sunny escape among the spectacular beaches, bountiful vineyards, and world-class golf courses. While you will enjoy warmer water in the summer, the off-seasons that precede and follow summer offer some major advantages.

Discounts and Availability

During shoulder and off-season months, many Kelowna accommodations can offer big discounts compared to peak season room rates. In addition, you may also find a better selection of rooms available to you on short notice so you don’t have to book your trip so far in advance. Plus, with all the savings you’ll find by visiting the Okanagan in the off-season, you just might be able to splurge on that suite with a jetted tub after all.

Milder Seasons

Travelling to the Okanagan in the spring or fall may not seem as appealing as visiting during the hot summer months, but taking advantage of the cooler seasons may be an advantage. The Okanagan boasts milder climates than any other destination in BC or Alberta. This means the golf courses stay open longer in the fall and open earlier in the spring than anywhere else. Green fees are also much cheaper in the off-season, and that means you can play more rounds without emptying your wallet.

Skiing, Skating, and Snowshoeing

The Okanagan is home to some of the best skiing in BC. With many Kelowna accommodations sandwiched between Big White Ski Resort and Silver Star Mountain Resort, you’ll find yourself carving down plenty of challenging ski runs, snowshoeing through picturesque trails, or skating under the stars at some of the most beautiful outdoor rinks in the valley. Some hills open in early November and stay open well into April so you can enjoy the snow and the sun.

Wine Tasting

You may have thought that BC vineyards only do wine tasting in the summer, but that’s just not true. That’s right—you can do wine tours all year long! Most wineries offer tastings all year, and guests often enjoy the slower pace of the tasting rooms and tours during shoulder seasons. While checking out some of these all-season vineyards, make sure you check out ice wine, which is made with grapes that are frozen while still on the vine.
