With more than 30 wineries in the Kelowna area, there are so many opportunities for visitors to go on Okanagan wine tours. However, with that much selection, it can be difficult to decide which ones you want to visit. Fortunately, many wineries situated in the same geographical location are banding together to promote wine routes.
The Westside Wine Trail is a good example. Located in West Kelowna, it features 10 wineries (soon to be 11), offering tourists a convenient way to discover multiple vineyards without having to drive all over the map.
Situated in the Mount Boucherie area, the Westside Wine Trail has a great mix of wineries. From well-established, national award-winning ones like Mission Hill Family Estate Winery to smaller boutique wineries like Little Straw Vineyards, there’s something for every palate.
The other wine trail members include:
The northern starting point of the Westside Wine Trail is about a 10-minute drive from most Kelowna hotels. And because they’re open year-round, there’s always something new to discover.
The route is about 11km, and most of the wineries are within walking distance of one another. The majority of them are in the Boucherie Rd. area, but three wineries are situated a short drive away on Glencoe Rd.
The Westside Wine Trail also hosts a trio of ‘Sip Series’ events each year:
Sip into the Season: wine and craft tour (Dec. 6, 2015)
Sip with Your Sweetheart: wine and chocolate event (Feb. 7, 2016)
Sip into Summer: summer whites and live entertainment (June 5, 2016)
There are advantages to both options. Obviously, if you’re travelling privately with your own group, you can go at your own pace and choose which wineries you’d like to visit.
When you book organized Okanagan wine tours, you benefit from having a knowledgeable guide who’s familiar with the local wines and the people who create them. With a little input on your part, they’ll likely be able to recommend wineries that’ll suit your taste. After all, each tasting room is going to have its own unique characteristics, as will the wines produced by each vineyard.
Another bonus of an organized wine tour is you don’t have to worry about a designated driver, so everyone gets to partake.
Regardless of how you travel, you’re going to be greeted by some spectacular scenery along the Westside Wine Trail:
