Hotels in Kelowna: The Back to School Bucket List

August 16, 2016

Hotels in Kelowna

Before the kids head back to school, squeeze in these last minute must-do events while staying at hotels in Kelowna.

As the summer begins to wind down and Back to School flyers start landing in every mailbox, most people leave the beaches behind and begin planning for the new school year. Before you start getting ready for this end-of-summer transition, our hotels in Kelowna have put together a little back to school bucket list to make sure you make the most out of your last few weeks of summer vacation.

1. Myra Canyon Park

This little spot has everything an adventurer could ask for. Bring your bikes and go for a leisurely cycle through two abandoned tunnels and over 18 trestle bridges. You can even bring your favourite running shoes and hike it. Or, for the real thrill seekers, you can challenge yourself at the Myra Canyon Adventure Park. Either way, this well-loved Kelowna treasure is a must-do this summer.

2. Knox Mountain Park

Visit this 766 acre park for an epic walking/hiking/biking adventure. Reconnect with yourself and your family while taking in the stunning views of the City and surrounding mountains. It’s the perfect send-off to another great summer.

3. Gyro Beach

This beach is perfect for squeezing in some last minute sun tanning hours under the retreating summer sun. Loaded up with snack shacks, volleyball courts, playgrounds, picnic areas, and rental shops, you can spend the entire day and really make the most out of the last few days of summer vacation. If you’re staying at one of the centrally located hotels in Kelowna, this beach is just a quick drive away.

4. Huckleberry Festival

On August 20 and 21, gather up the entire family and head on over to this unique Festival to sample all things huckleberry! You can witness the making of the World’s largest huckleberry pie, join in on the Huckleberry Hunt, enjoy a huckleberry pancake brunch, and show off your baking skills by entering the Country Fair Bake Off. There’ll also be carnival games for the kiddos, live entertainment for the entire family, and (surprise!) huckleberry-inspired food and drinks.

5. The Old Fashioned Family Social

For one last summertime hurrah, grab your little ones and head over to the Father Pandosy Mission on August 27. Have a look at antique tractors and fire trucks, get your faces painted, grab a bite, and watch some old-school demonstrations. It’ll be just like taking a day trip back in time.

6. Kelowna Summer Family Night Market

This new family-centred event is perfect for all ages. Held on select evenings throughout the summer, there’s still time left to check out this event before it’s time to enforce the dreaded school night curfew. Grab some grub that directly benefits local charities while shopping amongst an assortment of local artisans and vendors.

If hitting up the lake a few more times before summer ends is more your thing, check out our previous post for eight different ways to take advantage of Okanagan Lake while staying at hotels in Kelowna: 8 Ways to Love Okanagan Lake While at Kelowna Hotels.
