4 Inspiring UBC-O Events to Discover When Staying at Your Kelowna Hotel Near the Airport

February 11, 2015

Centrally located near a handful of thriving colleges and universities, it’s no surprise that our Kelowna hotel near the airport is home away from home for many travelling talented performers, artistic poets and engaging speakers thanks to a partnership between our hotel and the University of British Columbia Okanagan’s Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies (FCCS). Perfect for the creative thinkers, the performance enthusiasts and the knowledge junkies, these FCCS events will appeal to anyone looking to enrich their time in the Okanagan.

Lights, camera… experience? A little different than other production companies, Theatre26 allows BFA students to gain valuable work experience to take with them when pursuing a career in performance arts. If you’re looking for a couple of great shows to take in while staying at our Kelowna hotel near the airport, don’t miss these two great performances:

Ever wondered what kind of life lies within show business? Marooned, created and delivered by two former Cirque du Soleil clowns, delves into the isolation and madness that all performers face in their career. Nightly performances begin Feb. 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 at 8 pm with two matinee performances on Feb. 21 and 28 at 2 pm.

Creative Resistance: Art and Social Justice Activism

Blending art, media, and social justice, this discussion will centre on social movements related to unequal access to land, resources, and politics. This riveting discussion held on Feb. 27 at the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art will also address activist interventions through art and media and help offer suggestions for positive social change.

Becoming Home: The Welcoming Okanagan?

On March 20, take part in a discussion about the future of the beautiful Okanagan.
