You’ve booked your training room, your guest speakers are arranged, food and drink has been ordered, and your PowerPoint presentation is ready to be projected. How do you keep your trainees motivated and on task so they can make the most of the information being presented to them?
Here are some tips and techniques that will help keep your training room session on track:
Be clear right at the beginning of what will be presented during the training room meeting. Split the informational topics into categories and have them typed out on a schedule sheet, so everyone can follow along. Give each session a time limit, and stay the course. Limit questions to the end of each session.
Hands-on training is one of the most effective ways to get your information across. By demonstrating methods and then getting trainees to practice them, especially when it comes to first-aid or emergency training, helps them absorb what they are learning, so it’s easier to understand and remember. Involve your trainees as much as possible in demonstrations, and always encourage questions.
While you will want to get as much information out to your trainees as possible, you will also want to hold their attention. If you notice the group collectively yawning during one particularly long session, get them to stand up, stretch, and take a short breather if they have close access to the outdoors.
An experience shared is an experience gained. Many of your trainees are likely seasoned personnel who can give great feedback and share anecdotes and experiences that can benefit everyone, you included. Utilize their knowledge when preparing your topics and involve them in the process during your training room meeting.
You may feel like a grade school teacher, but tests are actually a handy tool in absorbing knowledge, and they can be fun. You can make your quiz less daunting by holding a bingo game or a game of memory.
One of the best ways to motivate your trainees is to make sure they are well fed. Booking hotel meetings rooms are the best way to have access to either a catered lunch or sit-down meal. You can also take advantage of socializing and bonding after your training session with some appies and beverages in the hotel lounge or bar. Booking meeting rooms for rent in a hotel can also lead to room discounts, which is good way to ensure no one has to drive home afterwards.
