Pet Friendly Kelowna Hotels Recommend 4 Things to Do with Pets in Winter

December 07, 2017

Pets in winter Kelowna

Skijoring is one of the activities you and your pooch can try when staying at pet friendly Kelowna hotels.

Are you travelling to or through Kelowna this winter? Not too sure about leaving your best friend back home? Don’t fret. There are pet friendly Kelowna hotels offering accommodation for you and your pooch and plenty of activities to keep you and everyone in your family, Fido included, running in circles.

Here are 4 things you can do with your pet while visiting or stopping through Kelowna when the snow falls:

1. Dashing through the snow

Kelowna offers a number of off-leash parks where you, your family, and pooch can enjoy a day hiking, snowshoeing or just strolling along some of the city’s beautiful open and wooded trails. Bring a sled or toboggan as well as a few bags to dispose any doggy deposits and enjoy some of these locations near Kelowna pet friendly hotels:

  • Kelowna Mountain Park
  • Cedar Creek Park
  • North Glenmore Dog Park
  • Duggan Park
  • Mission Recreation Park
  • Enterprise Park
  • Ellison Dog Park

2. On Prancer, on Dancer, on Fido

Your dog may not be ready for the Iditarod, the famous 1,000-mile dogsled race in Alaska, but there are two popular sports originating from Scandinavia that are catching on around dog-friendly hotels in the Okanagan: skijoring and kicksledding. Both are great workouts for you and your pooch. Skijoring is when you don a pair of cross-country skis and are pulled by your dog via a harness and leash, while kicksledding is when your dog(s) pulls you on a small sled, which features a chair mounted on runners, usually made of metal. You propel the sled standing on the runners while hanging onto a handle bar and kicking to move the sled forward. For canine friendly cross-country ski trails visit Kelowna Nordic.

3. Spend a Dog Day at Big White

Located only 70 kilometres from downtown Kelowna hotels and motels, Big White is a dog-friendly ski resort where your pups can enjoy frolicking in the snow in both the village and on pet-friendly trails. You can even hashtag your pup’s photo with #bigwhite to be included on the Dogs of Big White website page.

4. Book Fido into a Doggy Daycare/Spa

Dog owners who want to enjoy some amenities that are not as pet friendly, such as shopping or eating out, have a few options of where to leave their pets. Kelowna has a number of pet resorts, daycares and spa retreats where you can leave your dog for the day while you go out to play. Best to do a search online or ask at the front desk at your pet-friendly hotel in Kelowna for some recommendations.
