Now that your flights are booked and you’ve spent hours surfing through online reviews to finally decided on a Kelowna hotel, it’s time to start planning out the rest of the trip details. To make sure you arrive at your destination feeling relaxed and ready to start your vacation on the right foot, check out some of our favourite tips for planning a hassle-free trip.
Many airlines are lowering the weight of their checked baggage minimum, which can translate to extra fees and possible delays. To avoid these stress-inducing scenarios, weigh your checked baggage at home. If it’s over the weight limit, consider removing items or dividing your items between two bags.
If at all possible, try and pack everything into your carry-on bag. That way, you can skip the baggage carousel hassle all together and head directly off the plane to your Kelowna hotel.
One of the places in the airport that can cause the most stress for passengers is the security checkpoint area. Do yourself a favour and prepare at home.
Leave the boots with all the buckles at home (or in your checked bag) and opt for a pair of slip on shoes instead. The same goes for your belt and jewellery. The less you have on your person, the quicker you’ll skip through security.
Before booking anything, get your paperwork in order. Make sure your passport and ID haven’t expired. If you’ve recently changed your last name, be sure to update your necessary paperwork as well. Ordering new identification can take months during busy travel times.
It’s also a good idea to phone ahead to your credit card companies to advise them of your travel plans. Some institutions will shut down your cards if they see unexplained purchases occurring far from home.
The optimal time to travel is first thing in the morning. If your flight is cancelled or rescheduled, you will still have time to rebook and make it to your Kelowna hotel that same day.

To avoid lengthy wait times, plan to arrive at the airport accordingly. Although many airlines advise arriving at the airport one to two hours before your expected departure time, your arrival time at the airport can depend on a few variables. Smaller airports require less time to work through check in and the security checkpoints, and holiday season travel is often busier and means longer line-ups. Check online to see if your flight is on time or delayed. All of these scenarios can affect what time you need to be at the airport.
