We do Easter a little differently here in the Okanagan. While Kelowna hotels fills with tourists here to soak in the sun and see family for traditional Easter activities, this year we’ve also got two one-of-a-kind events you’ll remember for a lifetime.
The first event involves paint, running and raising money for a great cause. The next involves a roller derby style bunny hop. They’re on the same day (Saturday, April 19), at opposite ends of the clock so your family can get in the Easter spirit with both of these crazy fun family activities.
Awesome activity #1: Easter Seals Splash of Colour Family Fun Run & Pancake Breakfast
Start the Easter festivities off with some chocolate pancakes—energy you and your brood will need to participate in the five-kilometre Easter Seals Splash of Colour Family Fun Run.
After you’ve wiped the chocolatey goodness from your fingers and lips, don your sunglasses and bright white t-shirt because after the shotgun goes off, you’ll be showered in coloured powder at two different points.
You and your little ones will have a blast racing to the end as running rainbows, and you’ll feel good about raising money for Easter Seals Camps. Money raised at this event goes to the Easter Seals Camp in Winfield, where dozens of children with disabilities have a chance to discover nature and their abilities.
After the race, cool off with more chocolate, music and a few hugs from the Easter bunny. The Easter Seals Splash of Colour Family Fun Run takes place at Kelowna City Park from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is $35 for participants over age six.
Awesome activity #2: Bad Apple Betties vs. Roller Girls in Bunny Shove
Forget the bunny hop. These roller derby ladies are on the floor to show us the Bunny Shove.
On April 19, the Okanagan Roller Derby Association hosts the Bad Apple Betties against the NWO Roller Girls Association as they duke it out in the same of strikes, strategy and strength.
A family friendly event for all ages near many Kelowna hotels, the Bunny Shove whistle blows at 7 p.m. at the Memorial Arena. Admission is $10; kids under 10 are free. Show your bunnies what roller derby—the fastest growing women’s sport in the world—is all about.
