You’ve heard about the vineyards, the golf and all those lakes. Thousands flock to Kelowna hotels every spring and summer to take in the Okanagan’s most popular activities. But there’s a lot more to this valley than wine and nine holes.
Activities for adventure seekers abound in Kelowna, one of the sunniest cities in BC and an outdoor-lover’s heaven for its rocky, watered landscape. As a tourist spending your holidays in the Okanagan, your family is just a short drive to some amazing activities from any of the hotels in Kelowna.
Here are the top three things to do in Kelowna in the spring and summer if you like being out in the sun and working up a bit of a sweat:
1. Bike across the Myra Canyon
This incredible trail was recently named one of Canada’s six best bike trails by Chatelaine. As part of the Trans Canada Trail and the Kettle Valley Rail Trail, the Myra Canyon’s 24 kilometres are ridden by 50,00 cyclists every year who are drawn to its 18 trestle bridges, two tunnels and stunning canyon and Okanagan Lake views. Since the trail is perfect for beginners, your whole family can join in. From your hotel in Kelowna, take McCullouch Road to Myra Canyon Forest Service Road.
Editor's note - April 10, 2013: Unfortunately, the Myra Canyon is currently closed for restoration but check back soon as this is a trail you don't want to miss!

2. Climb and cave the Skaha Bluffs
If you like to climb, you’re coming to the right place. The Okanagan’s rocky terrain makes it a hotspot for climbers across Canada. One of the most popular climbing haunts is the Skaha Bluffs of Penticton, less than an hour’s drive from Kelowna hotels and the second-most popular climbing destination in BC. The Skaha Bluffs, a series of cliffs ranging up to 80 metres, give mountaineers incredible lake and valley views.
3. Zipline across a lake
Ziplining is now one of the Kelowna’s most popular adventure tourism activities. The Okanagan is now home to three zipline companies that stretch from Oyama to Peachland with one located right in Kelowna. Take in panoramic lake views, race your partner at speeds of up to 85 kilometres an hour and dodge your way around obstacles before heading back to your cosy Best Western Kelowna hotel room to really crash.
If you love outdoor activities, plan a trip to the Okanagan this spring or summer and make Kelowna your launching pad. The centrally located BEST WESTERN PLUS Kelowna Hotel & Suites offers a courtyard, hot tub, mineral pool, spa, restaurants, free breakfast and more. We're also one of the Kelowna pet-friendly hotels to bring your dogs for a run! Book your room today.
