Dog-lovers, welcome to Kelowna. Hotels and parks in this sunny Okanagan city welcome four-legged travelers from around the world.
Just a few hours’ drive from Vancouver, and ranked first among dog-friendly cities in North America, Kelowna gives pet owners the chance to enjoy all the Okanagan has to offer.
Here is a guide to the Kelowna pet-friendly hotels, beaches, and the more than 100 parks where you and your dog have an open invitation.
Your guide to pet-friendly Kelowna:
Pooches love to swim, and there’s no better place for it than in Kelowna. The serene waters of Cedar Creek Park welcome your dogs. Cedar Creek, unique to the Okanagan for its long pebble beach, is Kelowna’s only dog-friendly beach or waterfront park. Bring Marley to let her roam off-leash along with the rest of the family for the day. There are picnic tables and portable washrooms on site.
You and your dog can enjoy a game of toss or a jog on any one of 85 parks in the City of Kelowna, and another 22 in surrounding areas and regional/provincial parks. To find the right dog park near you, check out this list of dog parks in Kelowna or the city’s map of Kelowna dog parks.
The seven off-leash dog parks in Kelowna. No matter where you go from your Kelowna hotels, you’re close to an off-leash dog park:
Kelowna dog park policies are pretty standard. If you’re at an on-leash park, keep the leash length to a maximum of six feet. Dogs need to be licensed, and handlers should be over age 15.
Visiting Kelowna with your pet but without a vehicle? The Kelowna Regional Transit System’s policy on pets says buses will allow birds and small, fur-bearing animals that are contained in secure, hand-held cages small enough for the owner’s lap.
