Each year, Kelowna hotels fill with locals and tourists eager to soak up a wide array of activities and events honouring Asian Heritage. Kelowna is home to some of the most engaging Asian Heritage Month activities, celebrating the cultural diversity of Canada. The most notable activity during this action-packed month is the Asian Heritage Community Showcase.

On May 24 grab the entire family and head over to the New Life Auditorium on Harvey Avenue, a short drive (5 mins!) from our Kelowna hotel. Admission is free, but the experience is priceless.

The Story of Asian Heritage Month

Bursting with traditions and cultures from all different walks of life, Canada is proud to participate in and celebrate Asian Heritage Month every May. Since 2002, when the Government of Canada officially declared May as Asian Heritage Month, Canadians around the country gather together to recognize Asian Canadians who not only helped physically build Canada but also enriched the cultural diversity that Canada is well known for.

Exciting and Unique Entertainment

Experience the excitement of traditional folk dancers as they sway, glide, and skip across the stage as their ancestors once did. Tap your feet along with skilled drummers and musicians that keep a beat familiar with the heritage it descended from. Take in the beautiful and vibrant native attire passed down from generation to generation, and absorb some of the ancient traditions that are proudly passed along and shared.

Cambodia, Viet Nam, Mongolia, Bangladesh, and Malaysia are some of the many ethnicities that make up our Asian population.

Interactive and Informative Booths

Take a leisurely stroll through the numerous interactive booths set up for both adults and children. After sampling some of the best ethnic cuisine around, have your portrait drawn while trying on some ethnic costumes. Finally, follow the kiddos to the face-painting station and watch as talented face-painters turn them into kittens, puppies, or even butterflies.

No matter what you’re in the mood for, the Asian Heritage Community Showcase is sure to deliver a unique and exhilarating evening for all members of your family.
