When the weather gets a little chilly and a few more layers are required to stay warm, you may find yourself drawn to indoor activities instead of braving the snow and ice. However, Downtown Kelowna has become the master of hosting fabulous events that’ll make you reach for your scarf and mittens in anticipation. If you’re visiting Kelowna hotels downtown this winter season, check out some of these fantastic downtown events.

Downtown Kelowna Light Up! 2016

On December 3, head downtown for a day packed full of fun Christmas-themed events and watch as the downtown core turns on its holiday lights while the sun goes down. Events start as early as 10 a.m. and last until the fat guy Ho-Ho-Hos while lighting up the giant Christmas tree in Stuart Park around 5 p.m. There’s hot chocolate, bouncy castles, live music, beer tastings, movies, Santa letter writing workshops, story time, crafts, and so much more all located close to many Kelowna hotels downtown. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this event is the best way to explore Downtown Kelowna while taking part in a bunch of fun events. Get your full Light Up! schedule here

The Stuart Park Outdoor Ice Rink

This free public skating venue is open from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. daily during the winter season. Located right next to Okanagan Lake, this outdoor ice rink offers so much more than just a place to lace up your old skates. With stunning views, festive lights, and tons of merry skaters carving up the ice, this destination is a must-see this holiday season. Make sure to check out the Stuart Park Outdoor Skating Rink webcam before heading over to make sure the ice is open and in good condition.

Santa Shuffle 2016

This fun run and elf walk is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy some crisp winter air while taking in some stunning city views. Watch (or join!) as hundreds of outdoor enthusiasts dressed as Santas, elves, and reindeer gather at the Waterfront Park for either a 5km run or a 1km walk. This group may even run right by your favourite Kelowna hotels downtown. The proceeds from this race go directly to the Salvation Army, and that’s something you can feel good about. There are also door prizes, refreshments, and awards. Make sure you take advantage of the famous mild Okanagan winter weather while taking in some spectacular views of downtown Kelowna.
