With average Kelowna temperatures hovering around 30 degrees Celsius in July and August, it’s important to find ways to escape the summer heat when spending time in the Okanagan. Whether you head out to Okanagan Lake or choose to relax in the pool at your Kelowna hotel instead, there are a variety of ways you can stay cool. To help you plan your stay, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite summer sun activities. Grab your sunglasses and flip-flops and experience the Okanagan lifestyle your own way.
One of the best ways to keep your cool this summer is to get out on the lake. Renting a boat or Sea-Doo is the perfect way to do this. If you’re not interested in either of those, try a kayak or paddleboard instead. Because of the large size of the lake, there are more than a few notable rental places in Kelowna. Try one of these local businesses for all of your water rental needs:
If you’d rather sit back and take in the sights instead of worrying about a boat rental, you can take a boat tour instead. Some boat tours even include Kelowna wine and vineyard tours. One of these reputable boat tour companies can get you out on the water in no time:
Sometimes the best way to keep cool is to stay close to home (or in your case, close to the hotel). There are a lot of hotels and motels in Kelowna that offer up amazing pools. If you’re looking for a day of good old-fashioned rest and relaxation, skip the traffic and the crowds and spend the day taking advantage of your hotel’s fabulous amenities.
Kelowna is home to all fun-in-the-sun activities, and water parks are certainly one of the more fun ways to enjoy the heat without melting away. Ben Lee Park and Quilchena Park are great options for families. Both parks include more than just your typical waterpark features. You can also visit City Park in the heart of downtown.
For something a little different, try the Kelowna Wibit Water Park. This waterpark is like no other. It’s an inflatable obstacle course located directly on the lake. Bounce on the trampoline, test your balance on a floating balance beam, or work on your wall climbing skills. This is the perfect location for all ages.
Unique to the Okanagan, this cable park offers a memorable and exciting adventure for all. Learn how to wakeboard, waterski, or surf without renting a boat. Once you improve on your beginner skills, challenge yourself in the obstacle course. Whether you’re 3 years old or 70, the team at Whiplash Cable Park will get you up on a board.
