Flyboarding from Kelowna hotels

You’ll get an interesting view of the waterfront hotels in Kelowna as you soar through the air on a flyboard.

If you’ve ever seen a YouTube video of someone flyboarding, you’ll agree it’s kind of like watching Ironman fly, with a little James Bond gadgetry thrown in for good measure. It might look like a physically challenging exercise but guests staying at hotels in Kelowna are quickly realizing it’s not as hard as it looks.

If you’ve never heard of flyboarding, well you’re not alone, and you’re in for a treat. It’s the latest craze that’s sweeping the watersports industry, and Okanagan locals as well as tourists are lining up to give it a try.

What is Flyboarding and How Does it Work?

A flyboard is similar in size and shape to a wakeboard, complete with bindings, but that’s pretty much where the similarity ends. Whereas a wakeboard is towed behind a powerboat, a flyboard attaches to a jetski through a long hose. The board harnesses the thrust of the jetski’s engine to elevate the rider and provide the experience of flying.

It might take a few attempts to get your balance, but it’s completely safe. The jetski acts like an anchor point while you ride, and because you’re tethered to it by the hose, you won’t travel far. The person operating the jetski controls the thrust, leaving you to channel your inner superhero.

Why Flyboarding Is so Much Fun?

  • Easy to learn: Anyone with a modicum of balance can learn to do this. Some riders start hovering above the water in as little as five minutes.
  • Maneuverability: You can dive and splash in the water like a dolphin or fly high above the water for a bird’s eye view.
  • Exhilaration: This is as close to flying as most people are likely to experience, and the feeling you get is one of freedom and marvel.

How to Book a Fun-Filled Flyboard Adventure

As of now, there’s just one flyboard rental outfit in Kelowna called Okanagan Flyboard, and if TripAdvisor ratings are anything to go by, they know what they’re doing. Of the 33 reviews of this company’s service, 31 of them gave it five stars, and the other two gave it four stars.

For visitors staying at hotels in Kelowna, it’s easy to organize an excursion on one of these amazing contraptions, and there are three main pickup points from the downtown area:

  • El Dorado public boat launch
  • End of the dock on Cook Road
  • Manteo Resort Dock
