Old man winter threatened to stay a little longer this year, but Okanagan ski hills are closing soon. Since so many of our guests stay with us to ski or snowboard at Big White and other resorts, our Best Western Kelowna Hotel is giving you a guide to when ski hills close in the valley.
While most Okanagan ski resorts shut down their lifts by mid-April, every hill is different. If you’re planning a ski trip to the Okanagan, bookmark this guide and enjoy some great end of the season deals and ski packages from hotels in Kelowna like the BEST WESTERN PLUS Kelowna Hotel & Suites.
When does the ski season end in Kelowna?
Big White Ski Resort offers ski enthusiasts one of the longest seasons in the Okanagan. From Kelowna hotels, this resort is just a 56-kilometre drive from the city and offers dozens of attractions, trails, and powder. This year, Big White closes April 14, so you’ve still got a couple weeks left!
Crystal Mountain Resort, a family-friendly ski hill located west of Kelowna, is now closed. The last day to catch a lift was March 17.
When do ski hills close elsewhere in the Okanagan?
Apex Mountain Resort, a 30-minute drive west of Penticton, is a hidden gem of the South Okanagan. With incredible powder, warm weather and great terrain, Apex has become a popular ski destination from hotels in Kelowna and across Canada. The last day to test the powder at Apex was April 1.
Silver Star Mountain Resort, just a 1-hour drive from our pet-friendly hotel in Kelowna, sits above Vernon and offers skiers incredible snowpack, trails and heaps of attractions. While you’re there, try out the world-class cross-country trails at Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre. You’ll have to keep your eyes on Silver Star’s website for its official closing date, set for some time in mid-April.
With the end of the ski season comes the beginning of the golf and water sports season here in the Okanagan, where there’s always something amazing to do in the great outdoors. Look out for upcoming posts on opening day for golf courses in Kelowna.
