With four resorts nearby, your family can have the ski trip of a lifetime in the Okanagan.
Your Guide to Okanagan Ski Resorts
Big White Ski Resort is considered the ‘local hill’ for ski and snowboard enthusiasts in Kelowna. Hotels in the city, most of them, anyway, are just 60 kilometres away from Big White. Each year, skiiers and boarders from around the world make their way to Big White, the second largest resort in BC with 2,765 acres of skiable terrain under 24.5 feet of champagne powder. Before or after you strap on your skis, take in some of the other attractions, such as snowmobiling, ice skating, dog-sledding, sleigh rides and an ice climbing tower.
Crystal Mountain Resort is a great little family-friendly hill located in Westbank, 30 kilometres west of Kelowna. With 24 trails, including 11 black diamond runs, as well as two chairlifts and a T-bar, Crystal Mountain is a great place to break in your ski boots this season.
Silver Star Mountain Resort. You’ll find more of that impressive Monashee Mountain powder at Silver Star, just 78 kilometres from Kelowna hotels. In addition to incredible snowpack, Silver Star is home to 115 marked trails for snowboarders and alpine skiers of all levels. Recently named the best place to ski in January by the New York Times, the nearby Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre is also a standout destination visited regularly by Olympic skiers. Plus, you’ll find family fun for everyone, including tubing, ice skating, and bowling.
Apex Mountain Resort. Looking for big powder and the chance to ski in your t-shirt? Apex is the place. With an average temperature of -4°C and 600cm of Okanagan powder every season, you’re sure to get first tracks somewhere on this expansive yet low-key resort west of Penticton. In addition to a range of trails over 1,112 ski acres, at Apex you’ll find fast lifts, including a quad that takes less than seven minutes to move 2,000 feet.
