Ice Climbing at Big White

Visitors staying at Kelowna hotels have an abundance of things to see and do, no matter what time of year it is.

It doesn’t seem to matter the time of year, there’s always something to do in the Okanagan, and there’s always a good reason to book a stay at our Kelowna hotels. Of course, travellers have their preferred seasons to visit the area and they’re not shy about sharing their opinions on the subject.

For some, the thought of travelling to a winter destination in January is the furthest thing from their mind. Yet, as soon as July rolls around, you’ll find those same people in full relaxation mode in City Park. Here’s how certain segments of guests that visit hotels in Kelowna feel about the different seasons.

Sun Worshippers

If there’s one thing Kelowna is known for, it’s the summer sun. Heck, we even have a football team named after it. For those who crave a hearty dose of Vitamin D, there is no better place to be than here. It doesn’t hurt that we have a plethora of public beaches in the area where you can relax and play in the water:

  • Gyro Beach
  • Hot Sands Beach
  • Rotary Beach Park
  • Sarson’s Beach Park
  • Strathcona Park
  • Tugboat Bay

For people with dogs, there’s also Cedar Creek Park, which is a must for people staying at Kelowna pet friendly hotels in summer.

Sports Nuts

This is actually a bit of a toss-up. If you prefer water to snow, and heat to cold, then summer is the obvious choice for sports enthusiasts staying at Kelowna hotels. Stretching from Vernon all the way south to Penticton, Okanagan Lake offers 135km of pristine waters. This opens up so many opportunities for visitors to get active:

  • Water skiing
  • Wakeboarding
  • Jet skiing
  • Kayaking
  • Sailing
  • Swimming

However, if you’re a fan of the white fluffy stuff and you don’t mind bundling up a bit, then Kelowna is a winter paradise for sports junkies. With Big White less than an hour’s drive from town, you’ll have access to some of the best skiing in North America.

There are also plenty of other winter activities for people of all ages around Kelowna:

  • Snowshoeing
  • Nordic skiing
  • Tobogganing
  • Ice climbing

If you’re more of a spectator, the Kelowna Rockets always put on a good show.

Wine Lovers

As far as Okanagan wine tours go, summer is definitely a busy time in terms of tourism. The vineyards are in full flight and workers are bustling about, which makes for an exciting experience. For those who like things at a slower pace, a winter wine tour is just the thing.
