Our Kelowna hotel may be in the middle of the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, but we're surprisingly close to a range of exotic animals. You'll find anything from crocodiles and kangaroos to zebras and parrots. When you and your family are looking for unique and fun things to do in Kelowna, consider an excursion to one of these animal farms.
Exotic Animal Attractions in the Okanagan
Feel a live croc, see tortoises swim, and watch African wild cats in action at this rare crocodile reserve located right in Kelowna. You’ll learn more about prehistoric life during this reserve’s renowned ‘CrocTalks’ with crocodilian expert Doug Illman.
Listen to the sound of exotic birds and watch them in flight at this unique sanctuary for abandoned and abused exotic birds. Located in Peachland, Parrot Island is home to a range of beautiful birds being cared for by preservationists Ray Parkes and his wife, Valerie.
Are you fascinated by zebras? A visit to the Rawhide Ridge Ranch near Lumby lets you get up close with zebras and other unusual wildlife, including bison, peacocks, alpacas, a ram, an emu, and more. This working ranch and its four-legged residents are happy to have human guests.
If you love these furry animals from Australia, you won’t want to miss a trip to the Kangaroo Creek Farm. Just outside of Kelowna in Lake Country, this fenceless farm allows you to mingle with kangaroos and wallabies throughout the property. You can even hold a joey!
Most of these animal reserves are open year-round but some have different operating hours during the winter, so it’s a good idea to email or call ahead to ensure your family gets to see your favourite exotic animals.
