If you and your family have been thinking about an Okanagan getaway to break up the winter, BC’s new Family Day weekend is the perfect time. With a handful of fun, free or nearly free activities for all ages near Kelowna hotels, you’ll be able to spend some great quality time with the kids without breaking the bank.

Free Kelowna Family Day Activities

Swimming and More

You and the kids can take in some of the most fun you can have in the water this side of the ocean at H20 Adventure + Fitness Centre.

As part of the BC Family Day festivities, H20 is offering half price swimming on Monday, Feb. 10. With waterslides, wave simulator, indoor water park, river run, wave pool and an Olympic-sized swimming pool, everyone in your family is sure to have a good time getting wet.

In addition to splashing and riding waves, your little ones can take their turn at a special prize wheel. H20 is conveniently located at 4075 Gordon Drive, just a short drive from Kelowna hotels.

For more than just fun in the water, stop by the Kelowna Family YMCA or the Parkinson Rec Centre for various activities. Bouncy castle, anyone?

Skating and Other Great Winter Sports

You and your family can get into the Olympic spirit by strapping on a pair of skates or trying out a handful of other exciting winter sports.

The Capital News Centre will be the site of free ice skating from 1 to 3 p.m. You’ll also have the chance to check out Olympic sports such as sledge hockey, speed skating, curling, and stick hockey.

If you don’t have skates, you can still join in! Skate rentals are available, so you’ll just need to bring your own helmets.

The fun doesn’t end there. The centre is also hosting field sports outside, with family soccer on Field 2 at 1:15 to 3 p.m. and park and play on Field 1 from 1 to 3 p.m.

All BC Family Day activities at the Capital News Centre are free, but please bring a non-perishable donation for the Kelowna Community Food Bank.

Carnival Activities

If you and your little ones want to take in the fun of being up at Big White but a day of skiing or snowboarding isn’t in the cards, Big White Resort’s Family Day outdoor carnival is a great way to spend time up at the hill.

At the Village Centre, you’ll find carnival games, face painting, a bouncy castle, hot chocolate and cotton candy! Games, activities and live entertainment run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting.
