The end of summer is not the end of the travel season for Canadians. According to a recent study, this fall, 77 per cent of Canadian respondents plan to get away to destinations across the country—our Kelowna hotel included!
The Bank of Montreal's Fall Travel Survey shows a surprising 43 per cent increase in travel this fall over the same time last year.
BMO's Managing Director of Credit Card Products, Nick Mastromarco, had this to say:
“The fall season appears to be getting more popular among Canadians as a time to get away and recharge, as calendars begin to get busier in the cooler months.”
Where are all these travelers going? According to the survey, conducted online by Pollara, 45 per cent of trips will be within Canada.
British Columbia residents who participated in the survey expect to do be doing the most vacationing in the upcoming cooler months. Eighty per cent of BC respondents say they’ll be travelling this fall, and 53 per cent said they’re staying in Canada.
The Okanagan is a popular fall travel destination because of mild temperatures and an abundance of outdoor activities such as golfing or harvesting apples.
According to the poll, people in BC have some of highest intentions for fall travel, and they plan to spend the most—$2,888.
In Kelowna, hotels such as the Best Western offer hotel packages for everything from wine tours and golf to spas and shopping to help travelers offset the costs of their trip. Many attractions, including Kelowna golf courses, also offer shoulder season rates and shorter lineups to make autumn travel enticing.
Mastromarco suggests taking advantage of loyalty and rewards programs for flights and hotels to make trips even more affordable.
“Leveraging rewards programs is a simple and effective way to offset travel costs and increase spending power for purchasing flights, booking hotels and a number of other travel expenses.”
Thinking about a trip to BC this fall? Stay in the sunny Okanagan where there’s something for everyone. The centrally located BEST WESTERN PLUS Kelowna Hotel & Suites offers a mineral pool, hot tub, pet-friendly rooms and more.
